My friends and I had the best cooking class, couldn’t recommend it enough! Very reasonably priced and we had so much fun. We really enjoyed the tuktuk ride and being guided round the market to select ingredients. We cooked all vegan food and it was DELICIOUS! Was so interesting to learn about Mayan flavours and techniques in such an interactive way
A wonderful day with a visit to a cocoa factory, a coffee roastery and - our highlight - the market where Chef Elisabeth knows everyone and immediately welcomed us into the family. A very authentic experience and a great cooking class. We were included in all decisions and work and were able to get to know a little more about Guatemala ourselves. A clear recommendation!
We can highly recommend Elisabeth’s cooking course! That was one of the best we've done. She deals flexibly with individual needs (vegan). At the beginning we went to the market and bought everything together and then cooked and ate. Had great conversations and listened to music :)nThank you for the great experience in San Pedro!
Amazing service and food!
We had an amazing time cooking with Elizabeth! We bought our ingredients from the market and then prepared and cooked up a feast! She was so kind, and even surprised our friend with a birthday cake!!
Highly recommend Elizabeth’s cooking class! I had such a great time as a solo traveler, she made me feel right at home. I had a great time exploring the market, picking out the ingredients, and preparing them to eat together. Thank you, Elizabeth! Hope to visit again soon.
We had a great day with Elisabeth and her family, the cooking class was a highlight at Lake Atitlan.nFirst we went to the market to get everything we needed for dinner.nIn between we made a few trips to local shops that sold coffee or a traditional sewing shop. We got a lot of information about everything.nAfterwards we cooked dinner together.nIt was super tasty and a great experience.nWhat was particularly sweet was that we celebrated my birthday together, which I had two days earlier.nElisabet's daughter even baked small cakes.nI would definitely recommend the course again at any time
The cooking class with Elizabeth and her family was definitely a highlight of our trip to Guatemala. She took a lot of time for us, took us to the market to buy fresh things and at the same time gave us a little tour with insider information. Afterwards we cooked a real feast of delicious things and felt like we were part of the family all day. Thank you for the great experience and the wonderful day that we will remember for a long time! <3
Went for the cooking class on Valentines Day. Fun time was had by all.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Elisabeth and her family on our last day by the lake. It was exactly the relaxing, immersive, and genuine experience we had been looking for but hadn't yet found. She helped us decide on the spot which dishes we wanted to make, and then we took a tuk tuk up to the market to get what we needed. Elisabeth was quick to add unique produce we asked about and modify our planned dishes based on how our interests shifted over the experience.nnWhile chopping and cooking everything, we could take in the amazing view and chat about all things Lake Atitlan and Guatemala. Her and her family speak fluent English and are very active in the community, so it was fun to talk to them and learn about things that are difficult to discover as an outsider.nnThe food at the end was fresh, healthy, and quite tasty - a welcome change from so many other places in San Pedro. We had 5 or 6 different dishes or plates to eat and ended up taking home some leftovers which were a lifesaver before our early morning shuttle!
If you want to do a cooking class for Guatemalian food that's the place to be!!nnWe did lots of different dishes (also veggie) that you don't find in the comedores.nVery nice environment
If you only do one thing in San Pedro, you must do the cooking school. Chef Elizabeth and Chef Carlos are second to none. It an immersive experience. It started with a tuk tuk ride to the open air market where we shopped for all of our ingredients that we were using. Also we learned about this history and culture of not only San Pedro but a lot of the towns around Lake Atitlan. After we purchased our ingredients, we prepared an authentic Mayan meal. Everything from appetizers to desserts and homemade horchata! Best meal I have had in Guatemala period. Everything I learned I will be incorporating it into meals at home.
It was great!! You come for the cooking class but leave with a great experience and a full belly . You become part of the family! After the cooking class we sat together for hours and chatted around a campfire
The food we cooked was amazing! But the most special experience of this day is the family who organized it. Once you enter the class, you will be part of the family.
I can't recommend this experience enough! We spent the day with Elisabeth and her daughter Alicia, and not only did we cook some seriously delicious food, but Elisabeth also gave us the a tour in San Pedro, we did the shopping at the local market, we made some tortillas, and we visited a local chocolate place where you can taste and buy some chocolate. Plus, it's a family-run place, so you know you're in for a real treat! ️
What a great moment with Carlos! We did the 5 hours cooking classes and it definitely worth the time and price. Carlos is a great guide and will take you through the local market to buy fresh products before cooking them. This tour also includes the visit of a local chocolate house and traditional fabrics.
We took a vegetarian cooking class with Chef Elizabeth. She is an excellent cook and took a lot of time to explain the individual steps and Guatemalan cuisine to us. When we still wanted something sweet, she made extra rellenitos for us. We recommend everyone to take a cooking class with Elizabeth and her family. The food was really delicious!
Really amazing Guatamalan restaurant. Food is fresh and a new menu everyday. We had the vegetable noodles and they were so tasty and flavoursome it also came with a salad. All the ingredients for the salad had been grown in the restaurant garden. Highly recommend this place food was so good, reasonably priced and the staff were so friendly and accommodating.

Friendly service and fantastic food
Spacious, fresh, delicate place with a view of the Lagoon.nThe food is delicious and it is a luxury that the owner (a total artist) explains the history of each dish within traditional Guatemalan cuisine. We enjoyed it a lot, I want to come back nAsk for the tasting!!
We did the 5 hour cooking class at The House of the Traveler. Time & money well spend. What an amazing day. We went to a chocolate maker. We got fresh vegtables and herbs from the garden & the market. We made empanada’s, two styles of fish and a big salad. Elizabeth speaks really good English. She, her son and Coco are the sweetest. Highly recommend!
Had a super delicious breakfast here and a few days later did the cooking workshop. That was a great experience! First we got our own products at the market and a vegetable garden, then we cooked together and finally we ate the result, with a birthday cake as a surprise! It was fantastic!
Are you looking for a romantic location? Or just very good food? You've come to the right place!nnI had arranged a candlelight dinner at the House of the Traveler that morning. When we came in the evening, the flowers and candles were beautifully decorated as discussed and the vegetarian food was very good!nThank you for the wonderful evening at a fair price.
Great local food with even greater hosts
Johanna is lovely and super helpful!
Beautiful space and experience. The food was amazing. My partner is vegetarian, so they made a vegan veg noodle curry which was amazing as well. They have so many tea options that are fresh. Everything was excellent and hospitable.
Great food and a very cool owner!
Very cute family run restaurant/cafe! The coffee was amazing and the view is even better. Elizabeth and her family are super welcoming, making you feel right at home
I've always wanted to try authentic Guatemalan food but I'm a very picky person when it comes to where I'm going to eat at. I came here two weeks ago and I've been back ever since. This is definitely a family owned restaurant in the family is very nice. The food is once again very authentic and very good and this is coming from a person who is very picky with their food. I had a conversation with the chef-owner and I explained to her how picky I was and she told me anytime I can bring in food and she'll cook it up for me! I would highly recommend this place to anyone that's here
Very good experience, a beautiful place, good view, tranquility, and good service. Recommended 10/10
