The best meals I’ve ever had have always been more than just the food. They’ve been an experience. Restaurante Flor De Lis was exactly that. A culinary tour of Guatemala and mythology. There is so much I can say about this place but to start it was fabulous and you shouldn’t think twice about dining here. I found it on the top 50 restaurants website where I had found a fabulous place called Maido in Lima a few years ago which was equally amazing so I knew the references checked out. I didn’t know much about it just that I had one night in Guatemala City and do this was where I wanted to be. It did not didssspoint. The service was exceptional. Shout out to Bianca who was running the whole restaurant and on top of everything from the story telling of each dish to running the food and suggesting drinks. A gracious host. Each dish that arrived was better than the next and the presentation of each one made me want to wonder at the design, reluctant to eat. My favorite dishes were the first which was called Ixmukane, an homage to the sun and the moon and a story about the abuela. The “men of maíz” which exploded with flavor and the “heart of man heart of fish” which was knee buckling delicious… good thing I was sitting down. The cocktails were from the speakeasy bar Balama which is upstairs and each one handcrafted with care. If you are in town for a night or live in this wonderful city and have never been make it your top priority to experience Flor De Lis.
an amazing experience! The tomato did something to my brain, the ambiance , service, the flavors, it was magical. A lot goes into the sourcing and creation of these courses and as a person who is untrained in the kitchen i wonder how each course is gotten perfect sooo consistently! Incredibly intricate. the music choice was on point, really a great experience.nnBut: for the price im paying i felt like the servers were/are tired of telling the same story to each table. Rushing through it, speaking almost robotically & rehearsed. It took me out of it time and time and I just had to revert to the website. so what was the point of having the waiters do it? Maybe have a carton for each meal with the story? Or have everyone on the same course so it’s told once idk.nn2nd: honestly thought deer would be an interesting addition to the menu as it’s so forthcoming in the culture/folk tales etc in general thought the courses were missing a hearty meat elementnn3rd: booking process is muddy, i whatsapped and barely got an answer, and then emailed and had to manually send information, why not offer a booking website that sends a reminder, confirmation, etc.nn4th: it wasn’t clear from the website that the chef’s table would be offered different courses. Honestly thought the price difference came down to the seating, but having scrolled through the qr code website I noticed that it was more than just a seating choice. If i had known maybe we would have gone for that option.
The food and service at this restaurant was so good I have never had an experience like it. I really enjoyed learning the different stories from the Popolvu book and going on a gastronomical journey. For the price of this fine dining experience it was worth it and no one left hungry. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Guatemala wanting to have a unique dining experience. Be prepared to be at the restaurant for about 2-3 hours.
I had the pleasure of dining at Flor De Lis last night, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely fantastic—every dish was bursting with flavor and clearly made with care.nnThe atmosphere was equally amazing, especially the music, which added so much to the evening. I reached out to the restaurant the next day to ask about the playlist, and they kindly shared it with me! It’s such a great touch that makes the experience even more memorable.nnThank you to the team at the restaurant for such a wonderful evening. I can’t wait to return!
It was an incredible experience, 12 tasting times, each with a deep meaning based on the Guatemalan gods of ancient times, the customer service was super good from the employees and the atmosphere of the place is perfect for what is expected from the experience.nnIt is quiet and with music to get into the atmosphere of the type of dishes and experience you are looking for.
Surprisingly beautiful and perfection in lighting. I was amazed with the delicious food, probably the best restaurant in Guatemala by far.
I made my reservation on Open Table hours in advance. I arrived at the restaurant at 8:40 (they close at 10) only to be refused service. The place was empty. They claimed that reservations are made 24 hours in advance (something it doesn't say on Open Table). They should not allow reservations through Open Table hours in advance. A very disappointing experience, I will not return.
I recently had the chance to try the tasting menu with wine pairing at this restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. I’m genuinely puzzled how this place made it onto the 50 Best Latin America list. The dishes were not only lacking in flavor but downright unpleasant. Basic flavors were missing, making the whole experience bland and unremarkable. While the presentation was impressive, is that really what makes a great restaurant? I don’t think so. The service was okay, but it felt like they were just rushing to get through the meal, likely because they knew the food didn’t live up to expectations. The wine pairing was mediocre at best, but with such tasteless dishes, it hardly mattered. The only real plus was the nice interior, but that’s far from enough to recommend this place.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐nOne of the best meals I’ve ever had!nnThis restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience. The food was unique, flavorful, and of outstanding quality—every bite was a delight.nnThe small, cozy setting paired with the personalized service made the meal feel special.nnIt’s clear that attention to detail and passion for great cuisine are at the heart of this place.nnI will definitely return on my next trip to Guatemala.nnHighly recommended!
We really enjoyed the food and experience here! I did the vegetarian menu and was not disappointed. I saw some reviews saying it was very little food, but I was full well before the end of our tasting. A beautiful way to enjoy Maya food and stories.
Gave me and my partner (who grew up in Guatemala) food poisoning.nnPresentation was great though!
Service wasn’t the best. Rude and over charged me… well first over charged then rude. No one was friendly not even the Chefs never have had that before in my life. I’ve had much better experience for sure, especially for the level they are shooting for. Try Central in Lima Peru.
Creative, beautifully crafted storytelling of each dish, and delicious. One of my favorite dining experiences!
I absolutely recommend this restaurant, a must try experience. A journey through the Mayan culture. Every dish is exquisite. A dinner is comprised of 10 set plates. We enjoyed each dish so much that each dish was a favorite. I did not feel heavy afterwards. Venue is intimate and staff is professional. We will be back!
I requested a reservation and received a confirmation a day before with listed intolerances (dairy was one), but when came, waitress was under impression it was for next day. Not sure if that’s the reason my dairy intolerance was ignored. I mentioned I could tolerate very small amounts of lactose. I was served melted cheese and ice cream, that didn’t agree with me.nThe presentation was amazing, food tasted great. I have received 9 courses. My drink was good, too.
Great food, wine, and ambience. We loved the experience.
Maybe Guatemalan food doesnt agree with my palate but for the cost involved, this was disappointing. The flavours need to be improved, with a number of dishes tasting similar in texture. No stand-out or flavours that elevated the dishes.nnThe ambience, food presentation and backstory is interesting but was not enough to redeem the food. Service was standard of any normal restaurant, with only an added short story for each dish.nnEdit (numbers correction) : On top of this, an automatic tip was added to the end of our bill. We have no problems with tipping, but this practice of adding it without our pre-approval is disappointing.
Very disappointed in the food. I came expecting an incredible meal, which it should be since the tasting menu is worth more than usd$70 however we found unbalanced dishes. A duck with mashed potatoes and ginger sauce that I was looking forward to tasted like ginger with ginger and more ginger. Normal service, not what is expected when paying the price we paid.
It is quite an experience, food that represents a story of human creation according to popol vuh
This is a terrific fine dining experience. The chef has put together a fantastic menu based on mayan mythology as the backstory. I found the continual textural challenge of the food quote fulfilling. The flavors were unique, and the service top notch. A definite must visit in Guatemala.
