Love how eco friendly the hostel is.
Found this place by mistake in a scramble for a last minute booking and I'm so glad I did. It's just far enough outside of town that you can easily walk to the centre, yet have a wonderful refuge surrounded by nature to return to after a long day amidst the hustle and bustle. The food in the restaurant was excellent - very fresh and wholesome, and they had lots of snacks available as well (mixed nuts, dried fava beans, energy balls). There was access to filtered water available at all times, which was a bonus. The dorm was spacious and clean with comfortable beds. And the best part was the HOT shower! Best one I have found in all of Guatemala. So wonderful. A special thank you to Gabriel, Quique, and the wonderful ladies in the kitchen. I hope to return!
A superb location on the hills above San Juan, designed to respect the environment. The little cabins are very cute. The staff is very welcoming. The tours offered are truly fantastic. The restaurant's cuisine is delicious!nWe recommend it.
They have excellent vegan and gluten free options. The rooms are very nice and the staff are excellent. I would come again.
The place was very nice but the service was very bad from start to finish, I do not recommend it
Very nice place and nice people except for the austrian manager who is a very rude person.
Nice play to connect with nature and enjoy lake Atitlan. The owner is super helpful and kind. Place is amazing with a lot of nature an eco-friendly. Food is really good there since they have a vegetarian restaurant
It was a pleasant discovery. We are vegetarians and this could only be the place for us. We slept in a dormitory with the possibility of using the kitchen. With less than €15 we slept and ate for two. Helpful staff, clean and ecological bathrooms. I recommend it to everyone. Arianna and Matteo from Forlì.
I came for a night and extended two more. San Juan is a great and authentic place to stay on the Lake. Kind staff, beautiful grounds, and a chill stroll into town
The staff are incredible and attentive, the dishes in the restaurants are really all delicious, and the cleanliness is impeccable! I really recommend this eco-hotel in nature, but still close to the village because I did everything on foot! They organize tours even at the last minute with great guidesnThanks to the team
I stayed in the dorm and ate many meals at the restaurant. The dorm is very clean and the staff are always working to ensure you have a comfortable and welcoming stay! They have very nice compost toilets that are taken care of daily. The food was delicious!!! And I highly recommend any vegetarian to stop in and try to Guatemalan dishes you may not have been able to try elsewhere.
Our best experience of hostel in Guatemala so far!!!nThe staff is local and amazing, very kind and helpful. The setting was paradisiac. The food was delicious and everyone had always a smile. They have services and tours with good prices and amazing guides.nThe ecoresponsible initiative was very well done and felt very clean.nSan Juan was our favourite town around the lake.nThank you again everyonenWe warmly recommend this place :))
The bathroom had an interesting touch. You have to study to use the bathroom. There were so many dogs in this town that they wouldn't sleep, and you could hear them all murmuring, basically, even though it was in the countryside, there wasn't the serenity I expected. Still, the room was well-organized, and there were some interesting things to do, like a Mayan sauna (?), restaurants with lots of vegetarian options, a garden, and everything. I think I'll go back again.
I went to the wrong intersection for the 5 am shuttle and the attendant woke up and ran down the road to help me catch it! Beautiful place, great food, all-around amazing experience!!!
We had the pleasure of staying at Mayachik for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute! If you're on a budget the communal kitchen is well equipped for all your needs, if you're in the mood for some fresh and tasty well priced meals or drinks the kitchen is open from 7am till 8pm!nnLooking for things to do ? There's a great selection of tours and trips organised by the hostel, we had a fantastic time in the Temezcal. Staff are friendly and helpful caring and kind, I'd highly recommend staying here if you are at lake atitlan
Such a beautiful spot. A short walk from the centre of the best town on the lake! The staff are all really helpful and the food + drink available is reasonably priced and very tasty. They organise tours to a local honey producer and woman's weaving coop for free. Well equipped kitchen too!
loved this place! so peaceful and surrounded by nature. especially loved the sauna on the property, i will definitely return if i’m ever back in San Juan.
One night dogs barked right next to the hut for two hours and disturbed sleep.nnThe service is excellent and agradable. A large room with environmentally friendly ventilation. The one problem for a dog is type 3 on the par de cuarto por dos horas.
Perfect place for a weekend surrounded by nature and peace, close to everything and accessible
I'd never stayed at an eco hostel before, but this one was surprisingly good! The beds are comfortable, the toilet is a bit unusual (ECO), and there's a hot shower! The staff is incredibly friendly! Also, if you want to leave your luggage at the reception, there's an extra charge of Q50, so just leave your bags in your room!
It is a place located in the cantons of San Juan la Laguna, away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area, it is an ecological place that has a dry bathroom, vegetarian food, the place is cabin style, very landscaped in the place they have dogs that welcome you with the love of the world, the place is very quiet and has parking
San Juan La Laguna is a place with a very serious solid waste problem, there is garbage everywhere, and it is also very noisy. Mayachik is the best there is, but HE IS BAD. It's dirty and noisy too and it's still under construction so you have to endure, in addition to the music from the surroundings, the workers' drills. The menu has few options, it is also poorly balanced, it does not have enough protein, they don't know about tofu, soy and so on. Just lentils and beans. The treatment of the workers is terrible, they throw the plates when they bring it to the table. After paying them more than 2000 quetzales I ran out of cash, I asked for a lemon and they charged me 5 more quetzales, I told them I couldn't pay for it and they didn't care to give it away. The bathrooms are disgusting and smell very bad. The yoga room is a dusty courtyard filled with old, rusty equipment. The yoga mats are old, gnawed, broken, extremely dirty. While I was doing yoga a lady came to sweep, she didn't even tell me she was going to do it and she swept me... You should know that for card payments they charge 7%... In short, a terrible experience. I don't know if you stay, go up to the Mayan face on your own and leave San Juan la Lagunanas quickly as possible.
I think the best thing I got there is the service of Milton the manager, he was so helpful so kind so tolerant really appreciated, the place is very quiet, great sauna experience, great coffee , clean home made restauant, I'll definitely come back , thanks again milton
I loved it, very quiet and hygienic. Their ecological model is great.
A fantastic eco hotel equipped with composting toilets, communal kitchen, an on-site restaurant with delicious vegetarian and vegan options as well as a sauna, gym, yoga platform and beautiful gardens with hammocks to relax in.nNicely out of the central hub of town, be careful using Google maps to get there though and make sure the destination is the Mayachik Restaurant!
Our stay at Mayachik was everything we wanted and more! Truly only raving compliments for our stay!nnThe entire property was very in nature and beautiful. Our bungalow was spacious, had an incredible view, and the blankets kept us cozy at night (nights can get a bit chilly in January!). We were impressed by how clean all the rooms and facilities were. We loved the eco-toilets and the general strong commitment to sustainability (not something you see at all hostels/hotels).nnThe staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! And THE FOOD - delicious! The menu was quite varied so we were able to eat a different, fresh vegetarian meal each time.nnSet out of the center of San Juan (but incredibly walkable or reachable by tuk tuk), the location is away from the busy tourist areas so it is much more integrated with local life - which we really appreciated! It was the perfect home base for a relaxing vacation. We walked through San Juan every morning and easily took the boats to different towns around Atitlan.nnWould definitely recommend for your next stay in Atitlan! Wish we could have stayed even more nights!
If you’re looking for a nature oriented, friendly, low key, clean, safe, budget-friendly hostel, Mayachik is the place. It’s an intentionally peaceful spot to escape the crowds after long days of exploring.
Great restaurant, super nice to find a fully vegetarian place with good vegan options, healthy, filling food.nThe property is beautiful, lots of plants, dogs, a cat, hammocks to hang out in, friendly staff, and it follows great eco practices (solar powered shower, compost toilets, etc).nI just wouldn't recommend any remote workers (or others who need stable internet) to stay here, the wifi doesn't work with any kind of consistency. Keep in mind that the location is in a village so there will be sounds all night of dogs barking and other wildlife so bring good earplugs if you're a light sleeper.nI had to leave my reservation 2 days early because of the lack of internet. The team refunded one night.

The proximity to nature allows guests to appreciate the beauty of the surroundings while still enjoying the convenience of being close to key attractions. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat or an adventure-filled exploration, Mayachik' serves as an ideal base.nnFurthermore, the on-site restaurant deserves special mention. The culinary experience at Mayachik' is a gastronomic journey inspired by local flavors and sustainable practices. I wholeheartedly recommend Mayachik' to anyone seeking a sustainable and comfortable retreat. It's a five-star destination that not only pampers its guests but also prioritizes our planet's well-being. I look forward to returning to Mayachik' in the future.
It is away from the center, but it provides the quietness one seeks when going to an eco-hotel. My friend and I did a temazcal, which I have never done. LET ME TELL YOU, I felt great afterwards. This eco-hotel has a lot of activities to offer. It is family-friendly as well. I will definitely be going back here in the near future.
A very cozy place, with lots of nature and beautiful pets to hang out with, good vegan food, and a wonderful view.
The perfect environmentally-friendly resort. Don't expect pure luxury but instead understand that this beautiful place functions off nearly zero environmental impact with the comfort of a peaceful and stunning accommodation with additional perks like a sauna, yoga platform and well-equipped kitchen. Its location, surrounded by soaring mountains and rich forest, is spectacular. The staff are also super kind. Can't beat it!
Mayachik is beautiful!! We stayed for 3 nights and have nothing negative to say about it. Comfortable and relaxing, it is nestled away in nature with stunning mountain views. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They can help you arrange activities such as the Mayan Nose hike. There is a decent kitchen and the vegetarian restaurant provides delicious food. The perfect start to our trip!
We visited the restaurant, the food was very delicious, hot, and the staff was very friendly, but what we loved most were its gardens, beautiful!!
Nice place, good comfort. excellent service.
Excellent tourist place Good prices everything very ecological
We found this little gem by accident and had refras there yesterday and breakfast today. Very pretty and serene and the food was delicious with huge portions. You could easily split a meal. The service was a little uneven, and we had to wait quite a while today but it was a nice opportunity to slow down and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. I would definitely love to come back and stay for a night or more!
Super cute.nThey have temazcal (Mayan sauna), an ecological atmosphere and a vegetarian restaurant. Ideal for those who want to surround themselves with nature.
stayed there for 3 nights and loved it, keep recommending it to fellow travelers. the whole setup is beautiful, the 2 bathrooms (showers) in the dorm are huge and they‘re currently building 2 toilets right next to it, so that will make it even better!nfood was very nice, they were always helpful with vegan options. in general the people working there were mostly locals from what I could gather and there seemed to be a nice atmosphere among all of them, that was infectuous. especially Elvia is a sweetheart and doing a great job! we ended up taking a sunrise stroll to the mirador and I learned so much from her about San Juan and the culture in general. muchas gracias de nuevo Elvia y todo el equipo! abrazos desde El Salvador
