MayaAchik Eco Hotel strikes a perfect balance between providing an idyllic retreat from touristic hot spots and staying connected to local traditions and culture. Its conveniently located in a quiet grove of trees spot above the surprisingly authentic town of San Juan. The cabańas here are spacious and tastefully furnished with lots of privacy. With fresh home cooked meals from their restaurant, a spread of shady places to rest , my inclination was to just hang out all day there. The staff were super friendly, accommodating with my laundry and poor Spanish (the owner speak English and multiple other languages). Don’t miss this place!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and how wonderful it was! It was great to be a part of the sustainable practices at Mayachik’. Any major town on the lake you are going to have noise whether it is fireworks, dogs barking and roosters singing—it’s part of your time on the lake!nnThe rooms are nice, clean, and spacious. The only thing is: if you’re afraid of bugs, this is likely not the stay for you! We had big ants and small spiders near and on the bed. They’re gone with a little swat but good to know nonetheless. The shower is nice and hot and there are multiple facilities to use from.nnThe staff was friendly and kind—even offered to walk us to our bus that was leaving at 5am the next day in case we got lost! Can’t recommend enough!

This is my second time staying here and my experience has been great, it feels like a second home. The staff are wonderful, friendly, dedicated and attentive; the property is beautiful with great views; my little bungalow is very comfortable with a nice seating area out front with a beautiful view of Rostro Maya; the community kitchen provides all the essentials for cooking your own meals and the restaurant serves a great variety of healthy foods; they have great tours and activities; and it’s about a 10 minute walk to the center of town and there are a number of little convenience stores just down the road. It’s going to be hard to leave!

We had the privilege of staying for almost two weeks in this exceptional establishment, perched on the heights of San Juan de La Laguna. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped by an atmosphere of harmony and benevolence, where the hospitality of the staff reflects the warmth and nobility of the Mayan people.nThe environment is truly enchanting: nestled in the heart of a mountain tropical forest, the hotel fits perfectly into the lush ecosystem of the cloud forests of Lake Atitlán. Here, nature reigns supreme, offering a constantly renewed spectacle.nOur stay in the Ardilla bungalow, one of the highest on the estate, was an unforgettable experience. We could contemplate a breathtaking view of the majestic Rostro Maya, whose mythical silhouette stood out against the horizon, like a sentinel watching over the lake.nThe estate also has a generous space dedicated to the practice of yoga and gymnastics, a haven of peace where you can recharge your batteries in complete serenity, lulled by the murmurs of nature.nFinally, it would be impossible not to mention the restaurant, which undoubtedly stands out as one of the best restaurants in San Juan. And for those traveling on a more limited budget, the establishment also offers the possibility of access to a shared kitchen, a valuable asset for combining autonomy and conviviality.nA timeless stay, where the soul of Guatemala is revealed in all its splendor.
